The newest family in the itc Stone clan is the Humanist Sans. Stone Sans already has a claim to being part of the humanistic tradition. Its proportions are based on those of Stone Serif. The contrast in thick and thin parts and the overall proportions of the letterforms indicates its kinship to the 500 year mainstream of seriffed typography.

Other aspects of the design, however, relate more closely to the design features of gothics and grotesques. In designing the new itc Stone Humanist Sans several modifications have moved the new design further toward the humanistic sans tradition. The g, l, M, W, and more subtly the a and e are part of the re-form. The top endings of the vertical lower-case strokes have been slanted.

The Humanist Sans is a full-fledged member of the Stone super family having the same x-height, stroke weights, and proportions as the original Sans, Serif and Informal designs.
